8th Aug o60s Consolation Cup Semi Final
Not so much 'Our cup runneth over' as 'Our cup run is over' . . .
Today we took on NIFO B in the Consolation Cup semi-final on a 'neutral green' at Streetly Methodists.
I say neutral green, but we had a round trip of 37 miles, NIFO had a round trip of under 8 miles.
However, on to the game!
First up Mike S, Tony T and fresh from holiday John B.
All battled gamely but struggled to find any consistency against our division one opponents on a heavyish green.
Tony T and John B both lost to 8 and with Mike S also losing - to 14 - we had a 33-shot deficit at half way.
Val D also found the going tough, losing to 8 as well, but Rob D and Doug M both returned winning cards to trim the losing margin to 32 at the close.
Scores: John B 8-21, Tony T 8-21, Mike S 14-21.

Please pass on your congratulations to (or commiseration’s) to Tony Toal and John Bishop who were narrowly beaten in the Heart of England doubles Final last week.
They played on number of high class pairings in the Prelim round (Westy and Bill), and then again on finals night just losing out in the eventual final.
Congrats to both of them.

Ladies county game July 17th
Please see below an email from Staffordshire Ladies County complimenting Woodbourne on our hospitality but more importantly the GREEN in general as to how fantastic they thought it was when they played on the 17th July.
This is testament to the work the Last of the Summer Wine crew do on our behalf. Please ensure you thank them individually when you next see them.
Our thanks go to those that helped make this day a success.
Kind Regards
Rob Fall
"I would just like to thank you and your team for making our away squad so welcome at Woodbourne. The hospitality offered by the club was superb and everyone appreciated the amount of effort that they had gone to to provide refreshments etc. The sportsmanship demonstrated by your team was second to none and providing drinks on the green and to the markers during such a hot day was so welcome. If you could pass on our thanks as a team to everyone we would be very grateful.
On a personal note the green was an absolute pleasure to bowl - how fantastic it must be to play on regularly. I only wished I lived just a little closer. You have such a 'young' team with such good team spirit which was wonderful to see.
Wishing you all the best as you continue on through the county competition."

6th July - Message from Kate
"I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone that helped to make last Friday such a fantastic event . Whether it through help , donation or just supporting the day it was great and even better to see so many of our club members there . We made in the region of £4500 which is absolutely brilliant , I know my aunt would be overwhelmed .
Some of the money will of course go towards the new doors and decking area but there will be some surplus which shall be spent accordingly on security for the doors and hopefully some tables and chairs for the area.
I am sure you will all agree the club is starting to look better and I for one am determined to make it the fantastic club again that we all know Woodbourne can be . I am going to try and do a monthly newsletter so people can see what's going on and if anyone has any ideas with regard to fundraising events please let me know.
Thank you again and encase you didn't see I have attached the pdf of the article that was in the paper last week , a follow up is due to be done this week also with a few familiar faces so look out !
Regards
Kate x"

4th July - Forthcoming Ladies county match on 17th Jul
As some of you are aware we have gratefully accepted a request by Warwickshire Ladies County to host their next county game on our green.
This is testament to our green and that it is highly regarded, it is also an opportunity for us to showcase it to the mens county selection. There is talk that the Men’s County may want to use our facility soon, as we have had some positive responses from those that have played it on a Wednesday and Thursday.
Again we ask as a committee that we need volunteers, but also we need the support of the membership to attend and support on the day, this will show the County Selection panel that we can host such events.
I am more than happy to cut the green prior to the Northfield games being played that morning but we need volunteers again to run the bar, arrange car parking, cook the BBQ, and sell cakes, tea, coffee etc.
Please can you let me, Kate or Doug know if you can help on the day and in what capacity. If you can cook some cakes etc that would be much appreciated.
I look forward to seeing you all there to support the County, but also the CLUB.
Kind Regards
The Committee

This Saturday we are hosting our first club competition which is open to ALL members of Woodbourne. As in previous years all members have a handicap which is listed in the pavilion and the format will be a round robin until a winner is reached.
This competition offers EVERY member the opportunity to be crowned ‘Champion for 2016’ irrelevant of your ability. There are some interesting handicaps so there is a real possibility that anyone can win the competition.
It would be great to see everyone their as its rare that all members attend an event together.
The competition commences at 1400 hours so please arrive for 1.40pm latest to register your entrance.
UPDATE The draw was made prior to commencement and our winner on the day was Dave Burton.
Dave played Harry Fall in the final winning a very close game 21 - 20, along the way Dave beat Jim Orr and Kate Fall.
Special mention must also go to Harry who beat Adrian Williams, Brian Mancell and Faye Montgomery along the way.
It is a testament to the ‘Handicap’ system that it does work and this competition specifically can be won by ALL members. Please take note and bear this in mind when we hold it next year.

Scores: Jim O 21-10, Rob D 21-10, Doug M 21-11, Mike S 21-17, John B 21-9, Tony T 21-10.

7th Jun News for 1st July fundraiser
As a Bowls section are planning a Tombola on this day which will raise additional funds for the Bowls section. If you have any unwanted presents, anything from chocolates to bottles of wine, tins of beans, anything to fill the table please can you contribute and leave them behind the bar in the pavilion.
I know Kate has emailed you all previously about this and so far I am aware that we have Keith Richards, Star Quick, Sue Barnard, Bill Davenport, John Bishop, and others who have volunteered their time to help with the fundraising event.
More VOLUNTEERS required
As it is in memory of Margaret, the club wanted to do something that will benefit the whole club as she th club meant a lot to her. It will also benefit the bowling section. ALL of you knew her, and how much she did over the years to arrange and run social events, and the club feel that this would be a event to show our appreciation of all the hard work she put it.
As a club we are asking for a few hours of your time to assist either on the day or beforehand.
We need people that can direct cars into car parking, Fire Marshalls (Two names spring to mind immediately for these positions:)), there are other things that need our attention during the event, but we also need people to help for one, two or three hours on the morning / afternoon prior to the event.
Even an hour in the week or 2 leading up to the event to do things like painting the car park kerb in white paint, or cleaning the kitchen, painting the toilets inside the club. I have attached a list of the jobs that were listed at the beginning of the year, some of these now have been completed. If you can spare an hour or so to help and want to do any of these jobs please contact Cliff Stone on 07971 865 514.
The money raised will have long term benefit to you and the club, its the intention to use these funds to help pay for much needed improvements. The patio doors are being fitted this week, decking being laid in the weeks leading up to the event. There is also discussions regarding new drinks / improvements to the bar / kitchen area etc, but it has to be paid for.
We are now trying to make improvements, but the small amount of us can’t do it on our own, we need a little help.
Please let me, Kate or Cliff know if, and what time, you could spare to volunteer to get the club to a standard we can all be proud off once again and be a lasting memory of Margaret.

24th May Fundraiser news for July 1st
We have had some more fantastic raffle prizes for this event including Sunday lunch for two at The Portway restaurant , tickets for the first day of the England v's Pakistan test match to name just a few. Raffle tickets and tickets to the event will be available to purchase by this weekend, I have also had some great offers of help from a few of our members . Sue Barnard has kindly offered to run a cake stall so if you'd like to bake a cake that'd be great! We still need lots of help though so please if you can spare an hour here or there let me know. The new doors are being fitted next week and the patio area shall be all done ready for the 'opening' on the 1st July. We need to get the side of the club cleared and cut down so if you can help with that that'd be fantastic, as I have said this will be a great benefit to the club and all of our members so please try and help where you can.

25th Apr EBOS o60s cup report
Our first foray into the Senior Cup ended in a disappointing defeat to Boldmere St Michaels A @ Crown Forget Me Not.
The step up in class proved a step too far against our division one opponents on a fast, tricky green.
Mikes took an early grip on the match with the first three winners and though we had two winners in the back three, the deficit was too much and we went down by 21 shots - 106-85.
Scores: Mike M 9-21, Tony T 15-21, Doug M 6-21, John B 21-6, Rob D 21-16, Dave M 13-21.

Due to a lack of players making themselves available on a Saturday the committee have had to take the regrettable decision to withdraw the Business Houses team from Division 1 on a Saturday.
This decision has not been taken lightly and we have discussed all sorts of possibilities but it would make arranging a team each week impossible.
Due to circumstances we are due to hold another committee meeting on Friday 6th May 2016 where we will discuss options for those players wishing to try and make the first team, and we will communicate this to you in due course.
If you have any concerns with this please contact our Club Captain, John Bishop in the first instance.

Three winners in the first three set us up nicely and we led comfortably by 34 at half way.
Monty was involved in another marathon (this time only an hour and 5 minutes) before succumbing 15-21 but with two more single figure winners we ran out victors by 52.
Scores: Doug M 21-15, TT 21-6, MS 21-8, JB 21-9, RD 21-8, DM 15-21.

A "half decent" dart board should be available to use in the main club as from tonight. A bowls member has finally managed to find a good home for it. It has been collecting dust and home to spiders in his shed for last 30 years or so. After a quick clean it looked good as new - almost !
13th Apr - EBOS o60's report
After five years of trying in league and cup matches, we finally laid our bogey and won a game on Wylde Green.
We took on Wylde Green B with a couple of regulars missing (Doug M and Mike S) so we travelled with a little trepidation which was increased when we found they had put a big conk on their green.
I needn't have worried as five winners took us to a 29-shot win.
Tony T (21-7) and Rob D (21-15) set us on our way but with Dave M (12-21) losing out in a 1 hour and 20 minute marathon we led by just 11 at half way.
John B (21-12) carried on the good work and with stand-ins Brian M (21-16) and Val D (21-17) also winning we ran out victors 117-88.

There will be hot food and refreshments available so please try and support.
19th Mar (Saturday)
. . . and onwards work parties are welcome to the ground , a list of jobs will be in the clubhouse with materials etc, please try and offer some support when you can.
